Amputation
Loss of a limb does not mean loss of independence. In the last serveral years, patients with amputations have been able to lead a more independent lifestyle due to new innovations in rehabilitation.
Every patient's experience when losing a limb is different. Our physican led team works with the individual to develp a specific plan of care. The course of treatment can include, but is not limited to, coping with phantom pain, residual limb care and prosthetic training. We work closely with several prosthetic companies to provide fitting and manufacturing of the prosthesis.
Gateway Rehabilitation Hospital ensures that each individual has the opportunity to benefit from the latest advances in patient care, prosthetic training and rehabilitation.
Total Joint Replacement
Total joint replacements are the most frequently performed adult reconstructive procedures in the United States. The most common signs and symptoms associated with the need for a total joint replacement are: pain at night, limited range of motion and failure of conservative measures. Many candidates for joint replacements have health concerns that may prevent the patient from returning directly home after the surgery. Gateway Rehabilitation Hospital provides a multi-disciplinary approach for patient with total joint replacements to restore strength and mobility so they can live a functional healthy lifestyle.
During Gateway Rehabilitation Hospital's total joint replacement recovery program, each patient works to return his/her desired level of independence through improved strength, joint range of motion, ambulation, pain management and self-care skills to regain independence. Our team, led by a Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Physician, works closely with the patient, patient's family and their orthopedic surgeon to meet these goals while managing medical issues. The team will gauge progress and prescribe medications, as well as recommend equipment and orthotic devices.
Multiple Sclerosis
It is estimated that Multiple Sclerosis (MS) affects 1 out of every 1000 people. The effects differ greatly from person to person, but the overall implications and impact can be overwhelming.
Gateway Rehabilitation Hospital is committed to the treatment of patients with MS. We provide rehabilitation services for the Louisville Comprehensive Care Multiple Sclerosis Center. Inpatient and outpatient services are available and are delivered by an experienced team of healthcare professionals.
The team at Gateway will assess each patient and develop an individualized care plan. The patient is an integral part of the team and participates in the development of his or her own plan of care.
We will work to restore and normalize movement, range of motion and strength while giving each patient the necessary tools and instruction to better cope with the effects of MS.
Neurological
Neurological conditions include Parkinson's disease, Multiple Sclerosis, brain tumors and other conditions affecting the brain and nervous system. Rehab programs help patients adjust their daily lives to reduce the risk of future medical problems and restore functional independence.
